Why You Might Be Failing at Everything 🫠

Well, bonjourno to you all ! In a recent video that I watched from a YouTuber - Ali Abdaal, he shared a lesson that totally changed my perspective on the topic of focus. Some background first: He admitted to failing with a recent product launch (He created a mechanical keyboard). He had a major keyboard reviewer give a horrendous review about his product. Not only did he experience negative publicity, but he also lost around $250k. At the end of the video, he said that because he couldn’t give enough focus to creating the best product ever, it failed. Now here’s the lesson: “Don’t take on a new project unless you can commit a large amount of focus to it. And doing something half-baked is worse than not doing the thing at all.” - Ali Abdaal My personal reflection: I recently wanted to start another business venture on top of what I’m busy with now. (Full-time job; ACCA Student; Youtuber; Work part-time at 2 businesses and own an advertising company). My bias is that it could be a succe...

"Work is the solution to all of our problems" - Alex Hormozi

Heyy there ma amigo, Quick one today! Let me tell you something funny that happened today. A guy I was in school with, came across my Youtube channel and reached out to me. We had a call for about 1-2 hours about a business opportunity that he is exploring and how he wants me to be a part of it. And I thought to myself, haha you crazy bastard. All that effort is not for nothing. And that’s today’s message. Don’t think because you're doing something for “free” for someone that you are not gaining something from it. We tend to forget that it is in these spaces that we learn the most and also that the most opportunities show themselves! I like something Alex Hormozi always says: Every good thing is disguised in work. Work is the solution to all of your problems. I hope this little lesson stays with you. Keep grinding away ma amigos!

The Secret to Lasting Habit Change

Image
Today I decided to change my identity. Well, sort of. I signed up for a half ironman 😂   (Run 22km, cycle 80km and swim 2km back to back) But, I know myself. I am not consistent enough to achieve this. However, I think I unlocked the secret to change this. It starts with something called the three layers of behaviour change. The 3 layers are: 1) Outcomes (Setting Goals) 2) Processes (Changing Old Habits) 3) Identity (Changing Old Identities) Most of our problems with behaviour change is not the first or second point. We are usually good with setting goals and changing habits. Our problem lies in still IDENTIFYING as someone who trains for fun. For real change to occur, we need to first start with changing our Identity then we can do the other two. So, I am changing my identity to: I am an athlete, therefore I do Ironmans’ in my sleep 💪 .

“being productive is using your time intentionally”

Today has been a really unproductive day. 😂 I slept until 10, ate like crap and decided that I maybe wanted to sign up to a triathlon. How crazy. However, it got me thinking about something I heard from Ali Abdaal along the lines of: “being productive is using your time intentionally” So heck yeah, I guess today was a productive day after all. I didn’t study the 6 hours I was planning to but I did need some rest from the constant hustle and bustle of life. The key takeaway here is that you should not be too hard on yourself if you tend to scroll social media and do nothing the entire day. It happens to the best of us. Ps. I have decided to write these emails daily 😂 (this is an experiment that I am running).

"...Is This Necessary?" - Marcus Aurelius

First of all, thank you all for subscribing to the weekly check-in. This is sort of a crappy name but if you have any suggestions, please let me know! Lately, I have been reading up about Stoicism a lot. An authority who automatically comes up when you search about Stoicism is a guy by the name of Ryan Holiday. A principle that I want to share with you all this week is a concept called “non-reactivity”. All of us experience a plethora of emotions daily, and sometimes we let this determine our actions. The negative thing about this is usually our emotions don’t portray the objective truth in all situations… so you might end up reacting or making decisions that would not be the best for your higher self in the longer term. How this applied to me this week: my sister drove into my new car and scratched the bumper (see picture). Now, my emotional self did surge up and get really angry by this, wanting to swear at her and tell her off. But, then I remembered: non-reactivity. I stepped...
